Brockton City Council confirms eight school police officers in unanimous vote

BROCKTON -- February 3, 2025, Brockton City Council unanimously reappoints eight school police officers at special session. The council voted 8-0 Monday to confirm the reappointments of Alisha Fernandez, Randy Jean-Louis, Adelson Mendez, Alexander Moretta, Jason Mosley, Astrid Silva, Eric Texera, and Daniel Vaughn as special school police officers, acting on a joint communication from the chief of police and the mayor. The council first suspended its rules by hand vote to allow action at the special meeting rather than delay to a regular session. Before the vote, Councilor Azak announced the death of city engineer Howard Newton, who served in the Department of Public Works for more than 60 years. "He was a wealth of knowledge and loved by all who worked with him," Azak said. A second councilor described Newton as a "Brockton institution" whose personal collection of antique wooden speedboats and vintage Ford Thunderbirds reflected a life as distinctive as his six decades of city service.
