Brockton policy panel advances five policies, delays three others
School Committee 2026-09-03 Part 2 · Meeting of September 3, 2026
Brockton's Policy Subcommittee advances five district policies and stalls three others pending legal review. The panel voted 4-1 to recommend a revised public-complaints policy and 5-0 on budget-planning, staff-hiring, building-access and school-choice sibling-priority revisions. A district staffer identified only as "Dr.
Jamie" told members the district has already closed nearly all student timeout rooms under a state regulation that took effect August 17, converting them to office and storage space, prompting the panel to postpone its physical-restraint policy for a rewrite. Members also postponed a bus-driver policy after one, describing herself as "a medical person, a nurse," objected to dropping tuberculosis-testing language, and took no vote on a required Protect Act policy governing civil immigration enforcement, three weeks past a September 1 deadline. "We follow the law as it's written and we don't make this a political stunt," the chair said.
