Brockton City Council approves $1.6M MassWorks grant, advances zoning changes

BROCKTON — October 14, 2025 — Brockton City Council votes unanimously to accept $1.6 million in MassWorks infrastructure funding and advances a $859,400 state stormwater grant. The nine-member council, voting 9-0 on all roll calls at its October 14 meeting, also approved a $246,175 budget transfer from Fire Personal Services to Library Goods and Supplies, a $100,000 transfer from Police Personal Services to Traffic Goods and Supplies, and advanced a $470,000 DW Field Golf Course equipment borrowing order to a third reading after the presiding officer acknowledged having incorrectly brought it to a final vote at the prior session — "that was strictly my mistake." The council adopted a resolution requiring Mayor Robert Sullivan, CFO Dr. Troy Clarkson, DPW Commissioner Patrick Hill, and City Solicitor Megan Bridges to appear before the Finance Committee to explain the city's interest in purchasing the Dighton Desalination Plant, and passed a second resolution inviting the Brockton Blazers and other youth sports groups to testify on the impact of recent Brockton School Committee fee increases.
