School Committee · Meeting of October 6, 2026
Brockton's School Committee split 4-3 to approve Superintendent Priya Tahiliani's evaluation amid a format dispute, while separately voting 5-2 to hire three benefits coordinators after City Hall shifted insurance administration for 3,300 employees onto the district. Members Joyce Asack, Tony Rodrigues and Stephen Pina voted no on the evaluation, saying ratings lacked supporting evidence; member Sandra Centeio said some written comments were "very broad." The committee also learned Brockton's Discovering Justice mock trial program lost its Massachusetts Civics Fund grant for the first time in five years, leaving the district needing roughly $70,000 to keep the program in all seven middle schools; a $10,000 anonymous donor gift has helped offset the gap. Members voted unanimously to name the Memorial Drive entrance "Dr.
Claire M. Appling Way" after a longtime educator who served 52 years in the district, and approved $678,720, $671,695 and three smaller FY27 grants on the consent agenda.
