BROCKTON — The Brockton School Committee's Building Naming Subcommittee voted unanimously to recommend honoring longtime educator Dr. Claire M. Applin with a plaque at Brockton High School's Memorial Drive entrance.
Ward 7 City Councilor Shirley Asak and Brockton Public Schools employee Nancy Tucker, representing the sorority Alpha Delta Kappa, told the panel Applin served the district for 52 years, including 25 years as the first woman in a leadership role at the high school. "So for me it's an easy vote is going to be yes," said member Sandra Centeio. Vice Chair Claudio Gomes moved the recommendation, which Centeio seconded, and the subcommittee approved it by unanimous show of hands.
Asak thanked Mayor Moises M. Rodrigues for helping advance the years-delayed request, which proposes an honorary plaque rather than a formal street renaming.
