Brockton conservation board orders extra stormwater review for turf field
Conservation · Meeting of August 19, 2026
Brockton conservation panel orders extra stormwater review before turf field advances. The Conservation Commission voted 6-0 to send the city's roughly $1.4 million artificial-turf conversion of the George Snow soccer field to peer review with an added stormwater analysis, over the applicant engineer's objection that the board's own consultant called it unnecessary. Commissioner Joyce Boris pressed repeatedly on PFAS runoff and turf heat, asking, "couldn't it be in another spot?" Engineer Scott Farria warned the requirement "almost certainly will cause a delay" against a May 2027 grant deadline.
The same meeting produced an order of conditions for a three-family development at 31 Otis Street, a negative determination clearing a roughly 38,000-square-foot Field Street warehouse, and the second denial in five months of a certificate of compliance for a still-unstabilized stormwater basin at 30 Sargent's Way. The hearing ran nearly three and a half hours.
