Brockton Council on Aging picnic relocates after water main break
Council on Aging · Meeting of August 19, 2026
Brockton Council on Aging relocates senior picnic after a water main break at Brockton High School. Staff got a 10 a.m. phone call about the break and reset the event at an alternate site within a half hour, according to a Council on Aging staff member identified as Janice. "Within a half an hour, we were able to morph to set this place up," she said.
The Friends of the Council on Aging ran a 50-50 raffle, with tickets at $3 each, two for $5 or five for $10, and roughly $140 in additional prizes given out. Plymouth County District Attorney Tim Coons, who did not attend, contributed funding drawn from assets seized from drug dealers. Janice said the center is "averaging over 100 people a day walking in those doors," with a redesigned newsletter due in September and Medicare open enrollment and fuel assistance season both approaching.
