Brockton panel continues turf field review to September 16

Conservation · Meeting of September 2, 2026

Brockton Conservation Commission pushes turf field decision to September 16 amid health concerns. Commissioner Wadeza McCullough and Advisory Council on Health member Deneen Simpson, also a Massachusetts DEP environmental justice director speaking as a resident, warned against rushing an artificial turf conversion at Snow Park, with Simpson saying communities "end up" stockpiling spent turf with "no place to put it." Applicant engineer Scott Faria countered with a recyclable organic infill product he said runs about 110 degrees versus up to 160 degrees for conventional turf. Consultant Weston & Sampson told the board the current plan "is not an approvable plan set at the moment," citing outdated wetland delineations and a disputed floodplain fill calculation the state DEP also flagged.

Commissioners also continued a related certificate of compliance tied to a 2009 order of conditions that was never recorded with the registry of deeds. Both items return September 16.
