Brockton High School opened its fall sports season by cutting the ribbon on a new athletic field at Marciano Stadium.

BROCKTON -- The Brockton School Committee heard during its September 15 meeting that the district celebrated the start of the school year and the start of the fall sports season at Brockton High School by cutting the ribbon on the new Armand Colombo Field at Marciano Stadium.

HIGH SCHOOL -- Superintendent Priscilla Chapman Sadovnik told the committee the field project was "a significant and urgent need" and credited a partnership with the city of Brockton, the mayor and the district's athletic subcommittee for completing it in time for the fall season. She said the new surface means Brockton's teams and band "will now be able to proudly host opponents at one of the best athletic complexes in the state."

The superintendent also announced that Girls Sports Day at Brockton High School is set for October 3, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Marciano Stadium. Girls in grades three through eight are invited to meet Brockton High student athletes and learn about the school's girls sports offerings, which the district listed as soccer, basketball, field hockey, track and field, gymnastics, softball, volleyball, tennis, cross country and cheerleading. The event is free, but the district said those planning to attend should register early to guarantee a free event T-shirt. Registration is available at bhs.bpsma.org/sportsday.
