Brockton School Committee Approves One-Year Leadership Restructuring, Avoids Costly New Hire

BROCKTON — August 6, 2025 — Brockton School Committee votes unanimously to restructure district leadership, skipping a costly administrative hire. Meeting at Brockton High School's George M. Rom Little Theatre on August 6, Superintendent Dr. Priya Tehilliani proposed leaving the assistant superintendent of secondary schools vacancy — created when Dr. Michelle Connors departed for the Mashpee Public Schools — unfilled for the 2025-2026 school year, redistributing the work across two current administrators as a one-year pilot. Director of Compliance and Strategy Kim Tsai, a former deputy superintendent of Everett Public Schools, was approved as interim assistant superintendent for grades nine through 12 and compliance, while Assistant Superintendent Dr. Karen Spaulding expands her portfolio to cover pre-kindergarten through grade eight. Tehilliani said the move reduces the cabinet from eight to seven members and produces a cost savings. "We may find that a year from now this is not doable with just the seven people, but we would like to give it a try," Tehilliani said. The committee also unanimously approved the district's 2025-2026 student and family handbooks and an out-of-state field trip for the Empower Yourself program before entering executive session on collective bargaining and litigation matters.
