Conservation 2026-10-22 Part 2 · Meeting of October 22, 2026

Brockton's Conservation Commission approved a wetlands exemption letter for phase five of the city's sewer rehabilitation project and signed off on a golf-course bridge project, while holding open a septic compliance case. CDM Smith project manager Chad Kershaw said the roughly five-mile phase targets aging clay pipes letting in groundwater and stormwater, warning the "worst case scenario" is sewage backing into basements or reaching the ground during heavy rain. The commission voted unanimously to issue the exemption letter.

Commissioners also closed a hearing and approved an order of conditions for a timber bridge and sand-based turtle nesting habitat at Thorny Lea Golf Club, where peer reviewer Rihanna Summers of Weston and Sampson flagged "about 160 square feet of impact" to a newly identified riverfront buffer; applicant representative Brian Madden pegged the project cost at roughly half a million dollars. A certificate of compliance for a 99 Alger Street septic system was continued to November 18 after staff found incomplete conservation markers and uncleaned debris near a backyard pond.
