Select Board · Meeting of August 24, 2026

BROCKTON — The Brockton City Council voted unanimously to invite legal and social-service groups to address the fallout from the federal end of Temporary Protected Status. Councilor Charnell sponsored the resolve, drawing testimony from Haitian Community Partners CEO Marlene Amidi, Theodos Multiservices' Melita Theodore, Greater Boston Legal Services attorney Ann Georges and Governor's Councillor Tamisha Civil. Georges said her statewide immigration unit has seen "hundreds of more calls per week" since TPS ended, while Theodore called the fallout "an economic stability issue for all of Brockton." The council also confirmed police and fire promotions by 6-0 roll calls, approved a $250,000 state grant for the Ellis Brett Pond Dam, and held a required public hearing on a proposed Brockton Community Electricity aggregation program with consultant Good Energy Inc.
