Planning Board · Meeting of July 7, 2026
Brockton's Planning Board unanimously approved a slate of development applications, including a six-unit conversion at 703 North Main Street and two new building lots on Galen Street, while clashing with a mayoral push to end remote meetings. All votes passed 4-0, with Chair Tony Barbosa and members Marty Crowell, Yolanda Spinola and James Sweeney voting; member Matthew was absent. Interim Planning Director Elijah Romulus said the mayor's office wants boards meeting in person by August, but Barbosa objected, saying "I'm really not in favor of going back in person." Resident Veronica told the board she would be "too intimidated" to speak publicly in person.
Engineer Scott Farrier won approval for two Galen Street lots despite abutter Kelly Van Dyke's parking and construction-traffic concerns. The board also adopted electronic signatures for recorded-land documents.
