Brockton City Council Opens 2026 With Unanimous Votes on Police, Grants

BROCKTON -- January 12, 2026, Brockton City Council unanimously approves police reappointments, residency waiver, and sign permit at first 2026 meeting. The council voted 8-0 on all formal actions January 12, confirming 12 retired officers as special police officers and eight special school police officers under suspension of the rules. The body also granted a suspended-sign petition from Beijing Yummy Garden at 187 Crescent Street, with a representative explaining only the sign face would change. Councilor Farwell moved for an immediate vote on a residency waiver for Officer Adilson Andrade, who told the council his two-year-old daughter was his reason for wanting to relocate: "She's my priority right now." Eight financial orders, totaling more than $1.8 million including a $1,455,000 Safe and Successful Youth Initiative grant and a $64,935 Municipal Road Safety Grant, were referred to Finance Committee.
