Brockton City Council Refers Police Headquarters Sale Back to Finance Committee

BROCKTON — November 10, 2025 — Brockton City Council referred the proposed sale of the police headquarters at 7 Commercial Street back to the Finance Committee, delaying action on a disposition that has now passed through two prior committee reviews. Councilor Farwell moved the referral at the November 10 meeting, arguing that all councilors deserve a chance to weigh in on the sale of the building to a tax-paying entity; the motion carried by voice vote without opposition. In a separate 9-0 roll call, the council approved conveying a 2,570-square-foot parcel at Lebanon Street to abutter Florence Smith for $1,300 under the city's abutter lot program. The council also accepted and forwarded to Finance a $425,000 state PARC grant for Tower Hill parking improvements, a $194,150 MassDevelopment grant for environmental remediation at 307 Montello Street, and an order affirming the Brockton Retirement System's unfunded accrued actuarial liability at $66.5 million. Councilor Razak announced that Janice Fitzgerald, director of Brockton's Council on Aging, was named Massachusetts COA Director of the Year out of 352 communities, and separately called on colleagues to address what he described as unacceptable absence of Brockton Community Access coverage on election night.
