BROCKTON — The Brockton School Committee voted 7-0 to make North Middle School's student uniform pilot mandatory and permanent, making it the district's first middle school with a compulsory dress code. Superintendent Priya Tahiliani told the committee pension obligation bond costs will keep climbing, reaching a $2.3 million annual impact by fiscal year 2032, and that the district already fronted $1.39 million in net school spending funds to cover a transportation shortfall. Member Stephen V.
Pina said the district was "driving towards a cliff," and the committee voted 7-0 to request an outside actuarial review of the pension bond cost methodology. The committee also voted 7-0 to reject a proposed elimination of the community schools coordinator of recreation position, after Dr. De Barros Montero said the role's revolving account holds "over a million dollars." Members separately accepted an $85,917.10 donation from the dissolved TB12 Foundation and 6,500 backpacks from Cradles to Crayons.
